Building your home page should be exciting.

It allows you to create a first impression, show your excitement for what your website concept is, and can help steer your visitors toward your most wanted response.

3 Main Components of the Best Home Page

1) Your Introduction: This is actually 4 major items that you need to present/answer:

  • Who You Are
  • What You've Got - (Information, Product, Service, etc)
  • Why Your Visitor Needs It
  • How They Can Get It - (Click here, Enter Your Info There, etc)

2) Content and Keywords: Using quality keywords to your site's advantage.

ESSENTIAL: You'll need to put your keywords to use for you making them appear throughout your copy.

Considering a 3-tiered website structure, you'll also want to "deep-link" into your site from those profitable keyword phrases.

Remember, not everyone clicks on the left side or top navigation bar.

3) Cleanliness

A website with advertisements everywhere, flash graphics, and too much flair can confuse your reader.

Even funny fonts usually thought to enhance the appearance of a website can turn off visitors.

Keep in mind that you can't (and won't) please everyone, but the majority of your readers should find your site, get a feel for what you're presenting, want to learn more, and result in one of your desired responses.

Your Next Step

I've done this myself always with interesting feedback.

Send an email out to your friends and family, or even to your website email list.

Ask for feedback on the layout of your website, what people like and don't like.

Remember, don't make changes based just on one response. You should be looking for a trend that sticks out among the many responses that you receive.

In the very end, it won't be the look and feel of your website that guarantees success, but the content that you present that wins people over.
